Helped a friend find a job - 59th Day

One of my friend mentioned couple of days ago that, her friend has been having issues to find a good job. It has been tough time for her not being able to find a job for so long. Today I took initiative and sent her details about an opportunity that I am aware of and will follow up with her, until she finds something that suits her needs.

In these tough economic times, please try to help one another to find good opportunities so that people can live a comfortable life and stay happy.

Gave ride to a stranger - 58th Day

Today's weather was brutal in Ottawa, it snowed almost 30 cms, buses were either cancelled or delayed , roads not cleaned up, driving was brutal. When I left work my bus was delayed and then when my husband came to pick me up near another bus stop, I noticed there were tons of people waiting at the bus stop for the bus to come. It was still snowing and windy , they could be waiting there for very long.
I offered to give them a ride and mentioned we had 3 seats in the car and  we could drop them home. Only one person agreed and came with us. Nizar and I dropped him off where he needed to go. It was an awesome feeling to help a stranger and to make it easy for someone.
At tough times , try to do what you can and offer help to people to see if you can make it easy for them.

Held the door - 57th Day

Today since morning I  made sure to hold the door for the person behind me. Going to the coffee place, entering a building, exiting the bank etc. As a courtesy everyone thanked me and smiled at me.

Smiling is contagious and so is helping someone. Holding the door for someone seems very small, but passing that along can bring smile on someone's face even if it is for a short period of time.

Thanked my boss for his support - 56th Day

Thanked my boss for being the greatest boss ever. Thanked him for all his support and concern. Thanked him for all the great teaching and all the things I have learnt from him. Appreciated his patience with me when I was learning and growing. Thanked him for keeping his door always open whenever I needed his help. Thanked him for taking our blame upon him and protecting us from big disasters. Thanked him for being the great boss he is .
Thank you , 2 simple words but it means a lot. Thanking someone for their great help and support can mean that you appreciate what they did for you. Makes them feel that it matters what they did for you. Thank all those people in your lives who made a difference in your life today.

Being there for someone - 55th Day

Thanks to my uncle, we finally got in touch with a cousin whose mom passed away about 15 to 18 years ago , when she was 6 years old and her dad never let us talk to her. Finally today we got the opportunity to get in touch with her, got to hear her voice and after so many years, we found out that she is doing great and is pursuing her Engineering. This was a great moment for us and for her too, as she was touched to know that we still remembered her and we were concerned about her. We even gave her the offer to come over to Canada , live with us and do her further studies. It was really nice to know that she is ok and doing good.
Losing a loved one itself is a big deal at such a small age and on top of that losing all the family member's support must be a shock. Today she got to know that all her family members are there for her if she ever needs us for anything. I made sure she understood that she can contact me anytime she needs, for anything. Just to let her know she was not alone and we are all there beside her, just a phone call or an email away. Hope this empowers her and gives her strength to stand up strong.
Family is a big thing and family's support is basis of life. Knowing that one has someone to lean on , to rely on for support, gives comfort in the thought itself. Be someone's support and be there for when they need you the most.

Emailed people health tips - 54th Day

Emailed friends and family with some important and easy instructions to follow to cleanse once kidneys with parsley.
Home remedies and home solutions are the best way of keeping healthy. I have always tried to keep medications as far as I can from me, and try all these healthy diets, and home remedies to fix any kind of health issues. Today I thought , why not share this with friends and family, so they would benefit with it too.

Massaged leg - 53rd Day

Relief from a chronic pain is mostly massage. A human touch with a gentle massage, heals a lot of things. My husband's leg was twitching a lot and he was in pain. I massaged his leg for some time and made him a little comfortable.
Human touch is an awesome thing, it gives a feeling a of belonging and being loved.

Offered my seat to an elderly - 52nd Day

This morning when I got on the bus, found a very comfy seat and took a seat. Just after couple of stops , saw an elderly person got on the bus and had no seat to sit. I offered mine and made sure he was comfortable. Next 40min on the bus was cheerful :) for me and for him.

Helped stranger find items from top shelf - 51st Day

We were doing groceries this evening at Shoppers and found a lady having difficulty finding a certain flavor of milk. She was unable to see in the top shelf and unable to reach. There was no one around to help her and she was trying to find someone. That's when I approached and helped her find couple of those flavored milk bottles from the top shelf but hidden behind other items and way back. She was really thankful.
Very small gesture of helping someone, but I think a good deed is a good deed, small or big, you make your contribution everyday to make this world a beautiful place to live in.

Appreciated someone's efforts - 50th Day

Today I appreciated the blog writer whose work has really inspired me. When I started this blog, "Good Deed A Day" , I thought it would be a piece of cake , just doing one good deed a day, but in no time I started falling short of ideas. That is when I turned to Google to find my answers. That's when I found this guy who did this similar thing called "Random acts of kindness" for 366 days of the year. I left a note of appreciation on his blog mentioning how he inspired me and how great his blog was.
Appreciation is key to happiness. A real appreciation for someone's work , makes them happy, motivates them and boosts their morale, this is how growth happens.

This morning when I was going to work I noticed that the posters that I posted on Saturday , on all poles in Ottawa Downtown, were noticed by people and tons of them were even taken. It was just so nice to see that this might have really made a difference in people's mood at that specific moment, which could have lasted the whole day and might even have created a chain reaction, making their surrounding a little more happier :) Hope this love, encouragement and strength keeps passing along and hope this place becomes a better place to live.

One does not have to pay anything , only their sponsors pay them as per the number of clicks they get . So, if there is nothing to lose, then why not just go ahead and click to the causes you support and let the sponsors donate some money on your behalf for such causes.

Getting all cousins together - 48th Day

Created a group of all our cousins all over the world, with whom we have been losing touch, due to distance and time. Using technology for our advantage created a Whatsapp group and added all our cousins and even aunts and uncles to join the group. This is to keep in touch with cousins and our relative , before losing touch with our roots. This would even make a place of conversation to share nostalgic memories and to talk about our childhood.

It is always nice to have a get together and have tons of fun and make everyone feel that they are special and we still remember them.

Take what you need posters - 47th Day

Printed out posters that say "Take what you need" with few different sentiments that people are looking for in their daily lives like, love, hope, faith etc. Posted these posters and tons of its copies all over Ottawa Downtown. People who are looking for any of these can pick one and keep it with them. This may help people get that additional push that they might be looking for. For example, if someone needs courage to do something, they can take that from that poster , just knowing that will give them courage to deal with the situation.
This task was challenging due to our weather and to go around and  post them on the poles all around downtown, but even if a single person benefits from it, it would be great.

Help someone fix their personal computer - 46th Day

We all have seen such error messages atleast once in our lifetime, and this was the case of my colleague's personal laptop. He just mentioned to me few days ago as a passing comment how his computer was giving problems and how much frustrated he was with his new laptop. I offered him to fix his system and take care of all his issues and fix them all. Today I went to work an hour early and used up my lunch hour to fix his laptop. He was pretty happy to see a functioning system on hand and was very grateful about it.

If our skill can come to someone's use , then why not use it and help someone in need by making it a little easier for them. Skill sharing is a very important concept I wanted to bring in our community too.

Made my hubby happy - 45th Day

Yes it was Valentine's day today and Love was in the air , but my husband does not believe in it , for him its everyday a valentine's day, he does not need a reason or a specific day to express his love. The other reason for not celebrating valentine's day was that he was down with flu and stayed home from work just to rest. He was lonely and was feeling terrible being bogged down with his work, so I took this as an opportunity to make his day. Got him flowers, balloons and stuff he loves on the way home, and made him smile and cheer up.
Making someone smile specially after a long day of being  home alone, really uplifts their soul. Cheer your loved one and show them that you care, we don't need a reason to celebrate :)
Life itself is a celebration , each and everyday.

Giving away extra stuff - 44th Day

Giving away our curtains from our old apartment to a relative to put up in their new place , just as transition before they move to their own place. This will be only for temporary use, so they don't need to spend money on stuff that they will not be able to use in their own place. Giving away Nizar's brand new shoes which never fit him to someone else.
If reusing and recycling things help people then why not. Saving the planet and helping people around with your extra stuff that is just sitting around, not being used by you, is a nice way to help everyone.

Took care of my husband - 43rd Day

Its the flu season, how far can we run :)  My husband came down with flu yesterday but today he was in real bad shape. Took care of him after coming from work. Made special chicken clear soup, rubbed vicks on his forehead and chest, got him to inhale eucalyptus oil , gave him turmeric and honey balls to suck on. He will get well very soon.
As the saying goes "Charity begins at home" , I would say "Good deeds begin at home". Lets start taking care of our loved ones before going out and helping others. Loved ones needs the most support when they are sick and can't help themselves. We should always be there to support and do whatever you can do to make it easier for them.

Being Resourceful - 42nd Day

One of the small business owner emailed asking for help and looking for some IT small business and enterprise level solutions for his company. Just finished sending him few recommendations , went beyond and got details on pricing etc. Explained him why is one better than the other. Did some research to find a best solution that suits his needs.
Every human has some or the other type of skill that they can use to help people around. Lets be resourceful with what we have and help others grow and move ahead.

E-Greeting to a childhood friend - 41st Day

Sent an e-greeting to a very special friend from childhood , and added a personal note telling her how special she is to me. This is my friend from school and we have always been in touch, on and off but it always feels as if we have never lost touch and we still talk to each other as if we are still in school and having fun. Those memories are always cherished.
Friend is always a person who is mostly your own reflection and to cherish those relationship is very important. Being thankful for having such great friends is very little one can do for their friend. Friends are blessing in disguise :)

Helped a relative move - 40th Day

Helped a relative move into his new apartment. We drove to his locker , picked up his stuff and moved his to new apartment . I was quick and easy move , but now it will be fun getting settled in the new place.
Moving is always a big help , specially in western countries. Back home there is a lot of help but it is not always easy here to move. Any kind of help, for the move helps people around. I still remember how my parents and in laws came from India to help when we were moving into our new house

Wrote a review - 38th Day

Wrote a very positive review for an Android App, to let them know that they did a great job. Rated the app and surely recommended friends and family to use this app.
Positive feedback always boosts the morale and creates a chain reaction, which could in turn help 100's if not 1000's of people and it passes on.

Helped a stranger back up his car - 37th Day

This morning when I got off my bus, I saw this car trying to back up and merge into the street, but as it was peak hour people were walking in front and back of the car , and the driver was not able to backup for last couple of minutes. I watched for some time and then when I noticed it would be impossible for this car to back up without any external help, I jumped in to help. I acted as our Indian Traffic Police and stopped people passing the car from front and back, by show of hand and then gave directions to the car driver to back up his car and merge into the lane. I could not see the drivers reaction as the glasses were tinted but for sure it solved his problem and eased up the traffic.

Lost and Found - 36th Day

Found an item on the bus stop that someone might have forgot and left it behind. There were people on the bus stop and I confirmed that it did not belong to anyone and everyone just ignored and moved on. I picked it up and gave it to the bus driver to put it up on lost and found items. Hope the person who forgot the items could find it by calling the OCTranspo.

Offered to Volunteer - 35th Day

Offered to volunteer at abused women shelter - 35th Day
Today I signed up for being a volunteer at abused women shelter. Abused women is a big problem everywhere and women suffer a lot due to this. Some women are even with kids who live in this shelter. I have offered to volunteer them and help them out with all that I can provide.
We all have such places in each and every city, and everyone needs help in such places. Though they are government funded, they are always more people than what these shelters can handle, any kind of help makes a difference in their lives.

Helped a relative cross border - 34th Day

Crossing the border for Immigration/Landing Purposes: 34th Day
Helped a relative cross the US border for immigration purposes and drove them back into Canada. It was nice to help them specially at the moment when it was very crucial for them as they are becoming a Landed Immigrant in Canada. It was a fun trip and felt nice to help some become Canadian.

Cooked food for a friend - 33rd Day

Cooked for a friend
Got up early in the morning and cooked delicious Indian food for a friend who loved my cooking. I made it specially for her as she has not been able to eat properly lately and cannot keep anything down. She once mentioned she like what I cooked, so cooked it for her and gave it to her . Small token of love to show her that she is special for me and she is taken care of.
Making someone feel special and making their day, it just makes you feel special and it actually makes your day :)

Donated arthritis society - 32nd Day

Donated to charity:
Today after work we went to the mall to pick something up and my husband noticed a charity booth. We purchased 3 tickets for the charity and donated small amount to the charity.
Even a small contribution could lead to a big change.
